Photographing Children
Many people buy their first quality digital camera when their first child is born. Children are what most of us want to photograph. Keeping a record of every step of their development and progress. Some of these suggestions may help you capture photos of your children that are a little different.
Get down to the child’s level. If you need to squat, kneel, crouch or even laydown, this will give your photos a 'kiddies eye view' and won't distort their image as so many photographs taken looking down at them tend to do.
Posed photos are great but, more often, better results are gained by capturing an image when they are preoccupied with doing something else, playing with a toy or making a new discovery in the garden for example. You’ll capture their faces enjoying the moment rather than  thinking about what you are doing with the camera. Children who grow up having their photo taken regularly will be accustomed to the attention and a lot less likely to show off or even freeze in front of one with the result of un-natural looking photos.
Start them young and keep at it, make the camera a part of every day, whether you go out or stay in,  always have the camera close by. Record their growth from baby to kiddie to young adult. These are momentoes of your creation. Remember, don't 'snatch' a photo, think one then take one. As said right at the beginning, too often, in our haste to capture a moment, we will press the shutter button too soon or start to take the camera from our eye too quickly.
Take a family photo every year around the same time, a birthday or the weekend before a school year starts. These are events that come once and are well worth a place in the family album and an annual photo will show just how the kiddies change from year to year in a way we fail to notice on a daily basis.
