--- Natural Beauty in Natural Light ---
I will invite the people I encounter and photograph to write a sentence in my journal that best describes them as a person. The sentence they write for me I'll add to the photograph and build up a gallery of these people in the following pages.

Why am I doing this?
We categorize people based on assumptions that we make about them in the first few minutes of meeting them. This applies to people we are familiar with as well as complete strangers. We judge their clothes, their car, their home, their job, all superficial and, in my view, irrelevant to the real person.
Faces tell us much. Eyes tell us much more. What we can-not see is their thoughts. We rarely know their experiences. When we do, we don't know how their experiences impact on and shape them. We don't, I have come to believe, actually know any-one at all.
In reality, I think we rarely even know ourselves.

The Red Frame
Red Frame is a people and places project I am starting end of May 2008. It's a walk through the Dordogne Valley in SW France and the Romney Marsh in SE England with a small, red, wooden, picture frame and a camera to photograph people.
The added fascination for me is that England and France are traditional enemies with conflicts spanning centuries. The cultures are almost at opposite poles yet, incredibly, over the centuries, through the various invasions & conquests of each others nations, the two do have, I believe, a great deal in common culturally.  I hope to find these commonalities as I travel.

Will I learn from this project? I don't know. Will you learn from it? I'm hoping that I will have a complete representation of the diversity of peopleI intend to include some objects and places along the way that maybe relate to and tell us something of people too. Quite what they will be I won't know until I find them although I have an idea or two.

I don't know what I will achieve with this, I don't know where it will go. It is something I want to do as people, humans in general, fascinate me. At this time it is an ongoing project, you can catch up with where I am at via my blog here.
